VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Holly Hill man was arrested after he attacked an Ormond Beach police officer, attempted to take the officer’s weapons and kicked the officer in the head before he fled in a vehicle, deputies said.
The Ormond Beach Police Department said officers were dispatched to a Marathon gas station at 530 S. Atlantic Ave. in reference to two people sleeping in a car at the station early Sunday morning.
When an officer approached the vehicle, the suspect, Dillon Calisi, exited the vehicle and began arguing with the officer, police said.
Officers said the officer and Calisi then got into a fight and Calisi struck the officer in the head and attempted to take the officers’ firearm and Taser. Calisi then returned to his vehicle and fled the scene, police said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to an emergency call for assistance from the Ormond Beach police officer.
Deputies, along with members of the Daytona Beach Police Department, Volusia County Beach Safety and Holly Hill Police Department, assisted Ormond police and pursued Calisi in the area of Nova Road and Jersey Avenue, where Calisi lost control and crashed shortly after 2:15 a.m., deputies said.

Calisi, a convicted felon and gang member, was armed with a handgun and refused to exit the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Over the course of two and a half hours, law enforcement officials said they surrounded Calisi’s vehicle as he made a series of threats over the phone to shoot them, to shoot himself, to shoot an infant he claimed was in the car -- but wasn’t -- and to set off explosives he had in the car.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team then responded and approached Calisi’s vehicle using a BearCat tactical vehicle, deputies said.
Deputies said they deployed tear gas and a sting-ball grenade into the car before SWAT deputies removed Calisi from the car and took him into custody.

Calisi was turned over to Ormond Beach police and transported to Halifax Heath Medical Center in Daytona Beach for evaluation.
Calisi is being charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest without violence and driving with a suspended license. He is also being charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.
Calisi was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on charges of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and threatening a law enforcement officer.
The arrest warrant was from a December incident in which Calisi was found carrying 9mm ammunition and told a Daytona Beach police officer he could find his information on the dark web and kill the officer and his family, deputies said.
