Woman dies after being pulled from the ocean Monday in Volusia County

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Lifeguards in Volusia County said a woman died after she was pulled from the ocean Monday afternoon.

The drowning occurred around 1:30 p.m. at at 187 South The Beach in Ormond Beach near Garnada.

Officials said no one saw her go under in the water before she was seen floating face down and lifeguards were alerted.

The woman was unresponsive as members of Volusia County Beach Safety performed CRP to try and save her life.

She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, lifeguards said.

There is no lifeguard tower in the area where the woman drowned.

Lifeguards advise to always swim in front of an occupied tower to help ensure your safety.

The identity of the woman was not released.
