Warrior Games to highlight mental, physical toughness of wounded veterans next month

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Central Florida veterans will be among those competing in next month’s Department of Defense Warrior Games.

The games, hosted by the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, will highlight the exceptional physical skills and mental toughness of wounded, ill and injured active-duty and veteran service members, according to a news release.

The games take place Aug. 19-28 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, kicking off with an opening ceremony.

There will be 12 sports featured in the games: archery, cycling (both road race and time trials), shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track, field, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, indoor rowing, powerlifting, and golf as an exhibition.

Athletes from Central Florida represent Team Army, Team Air Force, Team Navy, Team Marine Corps and Team Special Operations Command, according to a news release.
