ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 13-year-old, who was injured when someone opened fire on a car full of children and teenagers, said a distraction in the suspect's vehicle is what sparked the shooting.
Deputies are still searching for the person who pulled the trigger.
The teen told Channel 9's Jeff Levkulich the distraction was porn playing on a television inside the suspect's vehicle.
Elijah, who didn’t want to give his last name, suffered a graze wound to the leg while he was inside his aunt’s car.
“I was shocked, like when it hit me, like, I didn’t feel it at first. A second later, that is when I felt it,” he said.
Elijah's mother, Tracy, said the shooting should never have happened.
“If it can start from something that little, who is to say what else they would go off on?” she said.
Elijah said they were sitting in a McDonald’s drive-thru on Silver Star Road when they looked over at a white SUV.
“They were playing porn on it, so like me and my cousins were laughing and we were making comments about it, and then the lady, she rolled down the window and said, ‘What did you say about it? They can’t watch it? It's a free country,’” Elijah said.
Elijah’s aunt told the boys to look away, but then the woman in the SUV allegedly got out of the car and began yelling.
When the aunt went to leave the McDonald’s, he said the SUV followed them.
He said another car joined in the chase, pulled up next to them and someone in the vehicle opened fire.
“I wasn’t scared. I thought he was going to shoot again. I got ready to duck,” said Elijah.
They eventually drove to another McDonalds down the street where they got help from police.
Elijah's mother said she hopes those responsible for this shooting are caught soon.
