Deputies said the women were driving a BMW on westbound I-4 near mile marker 118 around 3:30 a.m.

The women told troopers that a car was following them in the middle lane.

The women said they tried to get away from the car by changing to the outside lane.

Investigators said the car came up next to them and the person in the front passenger seat began shooting.

Troopers said seven rounds struck the left side of the BMW and one round struck the front of it.

The women said they believe the car was an older Nissan Altima that was possibly burgundy or a dark color. They said the car had dark windows and gray rims.
