Ohio zoo adopts rare blue lobster from local Red Lobster restaurant

An extremely rare blue lobster will now call the Akron Zoo home following its recent adoption.

Clawdia the lobster will now have time to get acclimated to her new home, which is currently closed to guests due to the ongoing pandemic.

Zoo officials adopted Clawdia after a Red Lobster restaurant noticed its color and contacted the Monterey Bay Aquarium, who then reached out to the Akron Zoo.

Clawdia was initially named Claude, after the restaurant chain’s mascot, before a vet examination determined she was a female.

According to the zoo, blue lobsters are very rare, occurring one in every 2 million lobsters. The blue coloration of the shell is the result of a genetic anomaly.
