Orlando Duplex Fire Leaves Families Homeless

ORLANDO, Fla. — A fire engulfed a duplex in Orange County Friday night. Now two families are left with only the shirts on their backs.

Witnesses said the flames were so large they could be seen from Interstate 4 with black smoke as tall as Orlando's skyscrapers, but that's all irrelevant to Dale Harris.

"The only things I got out was me and the kids," Harris told Eyewitness News.

Harris has a 19-month-old daughter and 6 -month-old twins, and when he saw the flames all he could think about was their safety.

"All I could do is gather them up like footballs and get out of there," said Harris.

Neighbors across the street called 911, and firefighters were at the scene in minutes, with hoses ready to douse the fire. They were able to extinguish the blaze, but Harris lost everything. He wonders how he will take care of his infants.

"They don't have bottles or anything," said Harris.

The American Red Cross is providing a place to stay, food and clothing for the next few days.
