9 things to know about registering to vote in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — September is National Voter Registration Month and the election is right around the corner. Here are nine facts to know about registering to vote in Florida.

1. In Florida, the deadline to register to vote in the November General Election is 29 days before the election. That means the deadline for 2020 is Oct 5.

2. To register to vote in Florida you must be a citizen of the United States of America, at least 18 years old, live in Florida and be a legal resident of the county in which you register. See a full list here.

3 There are many ways to register to vote. From online to the DMV, Florida offers many options. You can find a list here.

4. You don’t have to declare a political party affiliation to register to vote in the general election.

5. If you already live in Florida but moved, you won’t need to re-register to vote. However, you do need to update your address on your voter registration record.

6. In Florida, if you have been convicted of a felony you can register to vote only if you have your voting rights restored. For more information click here.

7. When you register to vote, your Supervisor of Elections' office will mail you a voter information card that gives your precinct and polling place and your assigned district offices.

8. The Florida Department of State has a Voter Information Lookup that allows residents to check their voter registration status. You can check your status here.

9. Registered voters can early vote beginning Oct. 24.
