ORLANDO, Fla.,None — If you thought there weren't any jobs in Central Florida, a new report says there are 10,000 of them currently available. The survey by OrlandoJobs.com asked more than 160 companies about jobs.
WFTV learned that more than 200,000 people are hunting for jobs in Central Florida. Sergio Richardson is one of them; he's been out of work for the past year.
"I even tried temp agencies and everything, not even temp agencies, can get you jobs," he said.
Richardson went to Workforce Central Florida on Tuesday with his dad to try to get help. There were 50 other job searchers there, too.
But the survey says there's good news; more jobs are opening up. OrlandoJobs.com surveyed 166 employers and found 10,000 available jobs in Central Florida.
Richardson doesn't buy it.
"The people that wrote that aren't being honest at all," he said.
But Workforce Central Florida agrees with OrlandoJobs.com and says there are opportunities out there. Orlandojobs.com says 74 percent of the companies they surveyed are hiring, including companies in finance, government and especially health care.
Orlando Regional Medical Center has 320 jobs. SunTrust has 96 jobs. The city of Orlando has seven jobs.
So why aren't job hunters finding them? Officials said it's because the majority aren't being advertised. The best move is to identify a company you'd like to work for.
Richardson hopes it will work for him.
Seventy-four percent of the companies surveyed are hiring right now.
