Firefighters said a jackknifed semitrailer collided into the front of the building.

Crews quickly arrived to the scene and provided care for the driver of the truck, who did not suffer serious injuries, firefighters said.

According to officials, the truck was hauling orange juice.

The driver told troopers the area was dark and he did not realize he left the road, officials said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said when a tow truck removed the truck from the building, part of the building collapsed.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

The Desert Inn was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1994. It has not been in operation for some time, so the building was unoccupied, officials said.
