“They were kids...panicking”: Sanford man says shooting victim came to his home

SANFORD, Fla. — Sanford police are still looking for the people involved in a shooting that left one young man dead early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened at the Circle K gas station at 2500 South French Avenue, near State Road 46.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the shooting.

One of the drivers — identified as Cedrick Williams, 19 — crashed into the gas pumps and later died of an apparent gunshot wound to the head, according to police.

A neighbor now says he saw a shooting victim on his doorstep just after the shooting and crash happened.

“They were kids under 18 years old...panicking,” recalls James Brooke who says he lives near the gas station.

Brooke says when he heard the gunshots, two people showed up at his doorstep just moments later.

“I asked them what was gong on. They were afraid. They didn’t want to say anything to me,” Brooke says. “I finally got one of them to sit down...He was bleeding. Pulled his shirt up and there was shrapnel. I said, dude, you need a medic...I’m going to call an ambulance for you.”

It’s still not clear if the person Brooke spoke to came from either vehicle involved in the shooting, but his driveway later became a part of a second crime scene, stained with blood.

Police are still looking for the second vehicle involved in the shooting.
