2 Krispy Kreme employees in South Carolina assaulted over doughnut selection

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Two employees at a Krispy Kreme restaurant in South Carolina were hospitalized after a fight erupted with a customer over doughnut selection, authorities said.

According to the Spartanburg Police Department, the May 1 attack at occurred at about 7:15 p.m. EDT, WPSA-TV reported.

In a police report, an argument began in the drive-thru lane between an employee and two customers who were ordering doughnuts, according to WYFF-TV. The man and the woman in the vehicle wanted doughnuts that Krispy Kreme did not have available, the report stated.

As words were exchanged between the worker and customer, the worker and a man in the vehicle agreed to fight, the television station reported.

Fellow workers intervened when the pair tried forcing their way behind the front counter to reach the drive-thru worker, The State newspaper of Columbia reported. One employee was shoved to the ground and hit his head, according to the newspaper.

Another employee who intervened had “bruising on the right side of her chin, left eye and complained of knee pain” after being shoved from behind, according to the police report. Both were evaluated by medical personnel before being transported to an area hospital, according to WPSA.

The employee who was working at the drive-thru window was not injured, and the customers left before officers arrived on the scene, The State reported.

In the police report, the drive-thru employee told investigators that the customer asked, “Why do you have such an attitude about it?” and the worker replied, “Order doughnuts we have, or don’t order at all.”

Police identified the male customer as Christopher McKoy, WSPA reported. The woman has not been identified. Police arriving at McKoy’s residence were unable to locate him, the television station reported.

No arrests have been made, WYFF reported.
