GREENFIELD, N.Y. — A New York man who has volunteered as a Boy Scouts instructor is accused of possessing child pornography, authorities said.
Ryan Surprenant, 34, of Greenfield was arrested Friday and charged with felony counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and promoting a sexual performance by a child, according to the Post-Star of Glens Falls.
According to a news release from New York State Police, Surprenant’s arrest followed an investigation that began with an online tip received by the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, WRGB-TV reported. Police discovered the material after conducting a search at Surprenant’s home, according to the television station.

In addition to his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts of America, Surprenant also had direct contact with youth in his community, police told WTEN-TV.
According to the news release, Surprenant was arraigned in Greenfield Town Court, where he was remanded to Saratoga County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $40,000.
