Carlos Santana postpones next 6 concert dates after collapsing onstage

Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana, who passed out onstage earlier this week, has postponed the next six shows of his concert tour, his management company announced late Friday.

The 10-time Grammy Award winner, 74, who was appearing with Earth, Wind & Fire, postponed the shows of his “Miraculous Supernatural 2002″ tour “out of an abundance of caution for the artist’s health,” Santana’s manager, Michael Vrionis of Universal Tone Management, said in a statement.

“Doctors have recommended that Mr. Santana gets rest to recuperate fully,” Vrionis said.

Friday’s show in Noblesville, Indiana, was scrubbed, along with Saturday night’s performance in Cincinnati and a Sunday date in Milwaukee, Variety reported. Shows in Rogers, Arkansas on Tuesday, Dallas on July 15 and The Woodlands, Texas, on July 16 were also shelved.

Vrionis said that Santana will resume his touring schedule on July 23 in Paso Robles, California, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the Detroit Free Press and WDIV-TV, Santana collapsed onstage shortly before 10 p.m. EDT on Tuesday during his performance at the outdoor Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan.

In a statement posted on the artist’s official Facebook page, Santana’s team said the guitarist suffered “heat exhaustion and dehydration” during the show.

Vrionis said Santana “is doing well and is anxious to be back on stage.”

“He just needs to rest. Santana profoundly regrets that these postponements of his upcoming performances; but, his health is our number one concern,” Vrionis added. “He is looking forward to seeing all of his fans very soon.”

In addition to his 10 Grammy Awards, Santana has won three Latin Grammys. In 1999, he tied Michael Jackson’s record for the most Grammys won in a single night with eight, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Santana has had six songs reach the top 10 in Billboard’s Hot 100, with two No. 1 hits -- “Smooth” in 1999 and “Maria Maria” in 2000. He scored two top-10 hits in 1970 -- “Black Magic Woman,” which peaked at No. 4; and “Evil Ways,” which topped out at No. 9.

Concert promoter Live Nation said it will announce details of the rescheduled concerts at a later date, Variety reported. Tickets that already have been purchased will be good for the new shows, the statement from Vrionis said.
