Chris Evans selected as People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive

The votes have been cast, and the winner is — Chris Evans, named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2022.

The “Captain America” star said “My mom will be so happy. She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about,” when People asked him about his new accolade.

The Boston-area native was at an Atlanta farmhouse for his cover shoot and talked about how uneasy he is about being chosen by the magazine for the honor.

“This whole thing is tough to be interviewed about,” Evans, 41, said. “It feels like a weird form of humble bragging.”

He also is expecting some teasing from his friends.

“Really this will just be a point of bullying. It’s ripe for harassment,” Evans told the publication.

Evans has been a box-office powerhouse over the past decade or so, but got his first on-screen credit in an educational video “Biodiversity Wild About Life!” in 1997 when he was in seventh grade, he said.

Evans had a handful of small screen credits before he was cast in the high school movie parody “Not Another Teen Movie” and his first superhero role as Johnny Storm in “Fantastic Four.” But it was his portrayal as the “star-spangled man with a plan” Steve Rogers, aka Captain America in 2011′s “Captain America: The First Avenger” that made him a household name.

Evans has played Rogers in 10 films, with the last appearance in 2019′s “Avengers: Endgame,” the AP reported.

The Associated Press reported that several other members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other Marvel films have also had the honor of being named Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine, such as Paul Rudd, Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Reynolds, Idris Elba and Hugh Jackman.

Mel Gibson was the first, named in 1985.

Other past honorees include John Legend, Adam Levine, Richard Gere, Dwayne Johnson, David Beckham and Channing Tatum, according to the AP.
