Daniel Uhlfelder made his way to several northwest Florida beaches on Friday, and his attire caught more than a few of his fellow beachcombers a little off guard.

“We aren’t at the point now where we have enough testing, enough data, enough preparation for what’s going to be coming to our state from all over the world from this pandemic,” Uhlfelder, a Florida-based attorney, told CNN.

In turn, Uhlfelder hit several Walton County beaches Friday to protest what he views as the premature reopening of the Sunshine State to crowded events and venues. He did so, however, donning a tattered black robe, a black cloth obscuring his face and a scythe in his hand.

“We have to take this into our own hands, unfortunately, because our leaders aren’t doing the right thing,” he told USA Today. “This is a way in which I can convey the message that this virus is a deadly virus and that we need to think about this and take some time before we jump into these types of things. This is a symbol of how serious this situation is."
