Delivery company DoorDash announced it will be reinstating a company program called “WeDash,” which requires all employees, including engineers, managers and top executives, to make at least one delivery a month.
WeDash was first launched in 2013 when DoorDash first started operations, CNN reported. At the time, its founders said it wanted to engage the company in the community.
Now, the company is looking to reintroduce the program in an effort to make its platform better. In an email to CNN, a DoorDash spokesperson said, “As the company grew, the founders wanted everyone to experience different parts of the product so we could get closer to all our audiences and understand how the product works. By engaging as a Dasher, supporting a merchant, or shadowing a customer experience agent, employees learn first-hand how the technology products we build empower local economies, which in turn helps us build a better product.”
There are options for employees who may not be able to go out and do deliveries. A spokesperson told MarketWatch that the company would allow employees unable to go out to make deliveries to shadow customer-service workers.
At least one employee has voiced their displeasure on the social media platform Blind, MarketWatch reported. In the post, an anonymous person complained about the policy, saying “I didn’t sign up for this, there was nothing in the offer letter/job description about this,” WGN reported.
The company said any money employees earn from doing the WeDash deliveries will be donated to nonprofits, MarketWatch reported.
