Georgia mother accused in stabbing deaths of two children

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia woman is accused of fatally stabbing her two young children and then turning the knife on herself.

Berenice Jaramillo-Hernandez, 26, of Gainesville, faces two counts of felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault, WSB-TV reported.

According to Hall County investigators, Jaramillo-Hernandez stabbed Mateo Miranda-Jaramillo, 5; and Katherine Miranda-Jaramillo, 6, the television station reported.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation, which is in its preliminary stages, indicates “Jaramillo-Hernandez killed the children with a knife and then turned the knife on herself, resulting in serious injuries,” CNN reported.

Emergency officials were called to a home in Gainesville at about 2 p.m., WSB reported. When deputies arrived, they found the siblings’ bodies inside the home, the television station reported.

According to the sheriff’s office, the children’s next-of-kin were notified of the deaths Saturday afternoon, The Times of Gainesville reported.

Jaramillo-Hernandez remains hospitalized and will be booked into the Hall County Jail when she is released, WSB reported.
