According to WNBC and WABC, news of Banes’ death came 10 days after a motorcycle or scooter struck her on June 4 as she was crossing a street on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The driver fled the scene of the incident, which left Banes in critical condition at Mount Sinai Morningside, the news outlets reported. Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the crash.

Banes’ publicist, David Williams, said Banes’ wounds included a traumatic brain injury, WNBC reported. He released a statement Monday confirming her death.

“We are heartsick over Lisa’s tragic and senseless passing,” the statement read, according to the news outlets. “She was a woman of great spirit, kindness and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends. We were blessed to have had her in our lives.”
