Holiday favorites: Company finds out favorite for each state; did yours make the list?

The Christmas cookies are being baked and the fruitcake is being set on the counter, never to be eaten.

We all have our favorite holiday sweets, but they may not be the favorites of our neighbors or even those who live in the same house.

The job-hunting website Zippia used Google Trends to come up with the list of the most loved holiday treats, and you may be surprised what topped the list.

Here’s a hint:

It’s a dessert near and dear to the fans of the television show “The Golden Girls.”

If you guessed cheesecake, you’re right!

Zippia chose more than 40 traditional holiday desserts, and using Google Trends, looked at the number of searches done for each one.

Cheesecake was the top-searched dessert with nine states searching for the creamy confection.

Also on the list:

• Holiday fudge
• Peppermint bark
• Gingerbread desserts

Zippia found that some states still like Christmas puddings.

And yes, even the detested, and often scorned, fruitcake is liked in North and South Carolina.
