HOUSTON — NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has done his time as a reserve police officer, but the Houston Police Department had some fun at the Hall of Famer’s expense.

O’Neal, 50, a sports analyst who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016 , was apparently pulled over for speeding by the Houston Police Department, KHOU-TV reported.
That gave Officer Kenneth Miles a chance to show off his announcing chops as the pair cut a promo for the “NBA on TNT.”
In a video posted on social media, Miles announces that “I’m Officer Miles with Houston PD, I just pulled over Shaquille O’Neal for speeding down here in Texas. You’re watching the ‘NBA on TNT.’”
O’Neal can be seen standing next to Miles, shaking his head. The video then pans out to show a vehicle being ticketed by Houston police.
O’Neal has also served as a reserve police officer for Doral, Miami Beach and Golden Beach in Florida; in Tempe, Arizona; and the Port of Los Angeles, according to the Miami Herald . He was also sworn in as an honorary deputy for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana in 2020, KLFY-TV reported.
In 2021, he joined the Henry County Sheriff’s office in Georgia as director of community relations.
O’Neal, a four-time NBA champion and a 15-time All-Star, is part of the “NBA on TNT” show that features highlights, analysis and some humor. O’Neal trades barbs with fellow Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, while host Ernie Johnson and former NBA star Kenny Smith try to maintain order.
The show airs on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
O’Neal and Miles are not strangers. The pair dined together at The Union Kitchen in 2020 and a year earlier teamed up to help cover the funeral expenses of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, who was fatally shot, according to the Houston Chronicle .
O’Neal usually has a dominating presence on camera. But this time, it was Miles calling the shots, creating a promo that was a slam-dunk.
