MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested in Monroe County, Florida, on Friday for allegedly driving 117 mph on a motorcycle.
According to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Martin Quincy, 35, was arrested Friday around 8:30 a.m. after he was spotted illegally passing vehicles in the center turn lane on U.S. 1. Quincy didn’t stop for deputies and the speed of his motorcycle climbed from 70 mph to 117 mph near mile marker 17 in a 45-mph zone.
An officer with Key West Police Department was on U.S. 1 and assisted MCSO by giving them a partial license plate number. According to MCSO, Quincy continued to pass vehicles illegally but he eventually stopped by mile marker 31.
According to MCSO, Quincy allegedly told deputies he was late for a flight, which was why he was speeding.
According to WPEC, Quincy has been charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and possession of marijuana.
