Khan told NBC4 Washington that he first called police at around 3 a.m. when he began hearing strange noises, “like something was banging the wall.”

Officers responded quickly, he said, but were unable to find the commotion’s source.

About three hours later, Khan called again after he clearly heard a voice emanating from the fireplace.

“This guy’s like, ‘Ay, ay, ay,’ He’s like saying some Hail Marys, some hallelujah stuff,” Khan told the TV station.

The intruder was extracted at around 7:30 a.m. and escorted by police to an area trauma center, WUSA reported.

According to NBC4 Washington, the man, who has not been identified publicly, sustained “serious” injuries but is expected to survive.

“Who knows how this could’ve gone. This could’ve gone wrong a thousand different ways,” Khan told the TV station.
