A 6-year-old girl who was reported missing Friday evening was found Saturday afternoon after hundreds of emergency responders and volunteers searched for her around Crawford County in western Iowa.

Mackenzie Godden was found in her home under a trundle bed nearly 20 hours after she was first reported missing, the Des Moines Register reported. Godden was found at 4 p.m. CDT, according to Mitch Mortvedt, assistant director at the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Officials are still investigating the circumstances of Godden’s disappearance and where she was during the day while authorities searched for her, the newspaper reported.

Just before 9 p.m. Friday, law enforcement received a report that Godden was missing from her home in Denison, KCCI reported. The girl was last seen wearing “a maroon unicorn shirt and gray pants.” The girl had last been seen at 7 p.m., according to Greg Miller, director of the Crawford County Emergency Management Agency.

The search resumed early Saturday morning, and nearly 700 people volunteered in the search, Miller told the Register. Five hundred people searched on foot, 100 searched on horses and another 80 used ATVs, the newspaper reported.

“We’re so proud of the community response,” Miller said. “And above all, we’re just so glad she’s safe.”
