According to KHOU, Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Texas EquuSearch are working together to investigate how a casket ended up buried on Miriam Soza’s property.

Soza noticed what she said looked like a freshly dug grave that had just appeared on her property last November, according to KPRC. She had also been fearful that it was an unmarked grave dug by someone trying to bury a deceased person.

KHOU said Soza’s property is next door to Barrett Station Evergreen Cemetery.

Investigators used radar to look over the area and found that something was buried there, according to KPRC. Investigators also found the exact shape of what was buried with steel probes and two diving rods. The area was sprayed with paint and it looked like a coffin.

HCSO Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted that on Tuesday investigators with HCSO and Texas EquuSearch found a full-sized burial vault/casket buried there.

“While there is a cemetery adjacent to the site, a cemetery representative advised all plots in their cemetery were accounted for and the mound was not a misplaced grave,” said Gonzalez on Twitter.

HCSO told KPRC that they are looking to find out who is responsible for burying something or something on the property. If no one comes forward or their investigation doesn’t lead to any suspects, they will be forced to dig up the grave and see if there is a dead person inside.

No further information has been released. Anyone with information is asked to call the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-247-9100.
