KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina man was injured after being struck by a sledgehammer prop during a youth football game on Saturday, authorities said.
According to the Kernersville Police Department, officers were called at about 11:14 a.m. EDT to Glenn High School after receiving a report about multiple people fighting at the game, which involved 6-year-old players, WRAL-TV reported.
When police arrived at the scene, they found several people still arguing and fighting, WGHP-TV reported. A single adult victim was found with a head injury from being hit by a hammer, according to the television station.
Investigators said that during one game, an adult male crossed the field to confront the other team, according to the television station. The fight escalated as adults from both teams traded blows, and a sledgehammer prop was used as a weapon by one person, WGHP reported.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, WRAL reported. Other adults had minor cuts and scrapes, according to the television station.
None of the children were involved or injured during the fight, WRAL reported.
Police said an investigation is ongoing, according to WGHP.
