NEW YORK — A suspect is in custody after a New York police officer was killed overnight in a hit-and-run crash in Queens, multiple news outlets are reporting.

According to WPIX and News 12, the incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday on the Long Island Expressway. An officer with the New York Police Department was directing traffic at a crash scene when a sedan struck him and fled, authorities said.
Crews rushed the officer to a nearby hospital, where he died, police said.
Authorities later found and arrested the suspected driver, a woman, the news outlets reported.
No further details, including the names of the officer and suspect, were immediately available.
