LOWVILLE, N.Y. — A New York man is accused of making numerous false Mother’s Day online reservations at a winery that resulted in a $13,000 loss for the business, authorities said.
David R. Nisley Jr., 33, of Lowville, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree identity theft, the New York State Police said in a news release.
Police said Nisley used anonymous aliases to make reservations at Tug Hill Estate, formerly known as Tug Hill Vineyards, in Lowville, WWNY-TV reported. That left tables at the winery empty that day.
According to state police, Nisley admitted to making the bogus reservations “because he was upset with his friend’s former employer.”
The news release said that Nisley expressed remorse and said he understood that his actions were “not a harmless prank.”
Nisley was arraigned in a Lewis County court and released on his own recognizance, WWNY reported.
