MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A recent violent crime dragnet, spearheaded by the U.S. Marshals Service, resulted in 268 arrests, the confiscation of more than 80 firearms and the seizure of about $1 million in illegal drugs across the greater Milwaukee area.
According to a news release, the U.S. Marshals of the Eastern District of Wisconsin worked in partnership with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to execute the two-month “Operation Triple Beam Honey Badger.”
“This enforcement operation, which was conducted from May 22, 2022 through July 31, was conducted for the sole purpose of arresting violent offenders and removing illegal guns and drugs from our communities.” U.S. Marshal Anna Ruzinski stated.
According to WTMJ-TV, the sting stretched from the Illinois state line to Green Bay, netting arrests on narcotics, murder and sex offender charges and pulling large quantities of heroin, fentanyl and cocaine off Wisconsin streets.
The sting’s 268 arrests included the apprehension of 86 confirmed gang or organized group members or associates and cleared a total of 860 warrants and charges, the Marshals Service stated. Specifically, the arrests included the following charges:
- Homicide: 47
- Recklessly endangering safety (nonfatal shootings): 81
- Narcotics: 220
- Robbery: 17
- Sex crimes/offenders: 60
- Firearms offenses: 122
- Other violent offenses: 42
- Other nonviolent offenses: 271
Meanwhile, Operation Triple Beam Honey Badger seized a total of nearly 123 pounds of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, marijuana, methamphetamine, ecstasy, oxycodone and other various pills with an estimated street value ranging from $750,000 to slightly more than $1.1 million, “depending on current prices,” the agency stated.
The sting also netted the following property seizures:
- Firearms: 84
- Facsimile firearms: 8
- Suppressor: 1
- Ammunition: 3,305 rounds
- U.S. currency: $284,016
- Cellphones: 35
- Vehicles: 2
According to the Marshals Service, the enforcement activity targeted the Milwaukee/Waukesha Metropolitan area, Racine, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Oshkosh and Appleton.
