TROUTMAN, N.C. — One person was shot and wounded outside the North Carolina home of rapper DaBaby, authorities said Thursday.
The Charlotte rapper, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, was at his home at the time of the shooting at about 8 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, according to the Troutman Police Department. A second person was also at the house, WSOC-TV reported.
The victim was shot on the property’s football field, according to the television station.

Troutman Police Chief Josh Watson could not confirm if the rapper was directly involved in the incident. He declined to tell The Associated Press who was shot or who did the shooting, citing an ongoing investigation. He said the injuries of the unidentified wounded person were not life-threatening.
According to a 911 call released by the Troutman Police Department, a caller told the dispatcher, “I shot him in his leg,” WSOC reported.
Authorities have not confirmed who made the call.
“OK. And why did you do that?” the dispatcher asked.
“He’s trespassing on my property,” the man told the dispatcher. “(Inaudible) about my name. I don’t know what he’s here for. What he’s here to take. What he’s here to do. He’s neutralized until you guys get here.”
Kirk, a Grammy-nominated rapper, moved into the 11,000-square-foot mansion, located on 8.5 acres of land about 50 miles north of Charlotte, in December 2019, according to Rolling Stone.
There are several no trespassing signs around the property, investigators told WSOC.
“That much property being in Troutman, you just got to be a fool to touch DaBaby. You just got to be,” Troutman resident Anthony McCullah told the television station.
“There’s a significantly tall concrete wall surrounded by, on the other side, a high chain-link fence,” Watson told reporters. “No, it’s like any other property owner, he’s entitled to his rights to secure their property and make sure nobody comes in.”
The gunfire is the latest incident involving Kirk. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon after a fatal shooting at a Walmart in Huntersville, located just south of Troutman, according to the AP. He was not charged in the shooting.
In 2021, Kirk was arrested after he took a loaded gun into an upscale store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California, the AP reported.
