EAGLE PASS, Texas — Border patrol agents and firefighters worked to pull two young children from the Rio Grande on Monday.
The 3-year-old boy was dead when he was pulled from the water by U.S. Border Patrol agents, KABB reported. A 2-month-old boy, found nearby, was taken from the river to a hospital in critical condition.
Members of the Eagle Pass Fire Department were called to assist Customs and Border Protection get the children out of the water, KSAT reported.
Eagle Pass Fire Department Chief Manuel Mello told KABB the baby was transferred to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition.
Officers told KABB that the children were part of a larger group of migrants trying to cross into the United States.
