NEWNAN, Ga. — A trail of candy wrappers led deputies to multiple people who were allegedly involved in a burglary ring in Georgia.

According to WSB-TV, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said seven people were arrested for allegedly burglarizing houses in Newnan, Georgia. The incidents happened over three days at the beginning of October.

At one of the incidents on Oct. 4, deputies were called out about a possible robbery at a house on Thomas Way, according to WSB-TV. When deputies arrived at the house, the victim told them that he had left his house around 6 a.m. and when he got home around 2 p.m., he found his truck had been moved in the garage. When he went inside, he found a beanie on the kitchen counter that did not belong to him. He also noticed that some items were missing, according to an incident report obtained by WSB-TV. Those items included a chainsaw, anxiety medication and a few other items. The victim also told deputies that it looked like someone was trying to pull out his dining room A/C unit.

During their investigation, deputies learned that the suspects had allegedly used the woods as a shortcut to get to and from the houses they had burglarized. According to WSB-TV, in other incidents, suspects allegedly stole food items, which included a bag of Milky Way candy bars. Those were wrappers were found in the woods and there appeared to be a trail. According to WSB-TV, the trail of wrappers led deputies to the house of one of the alleged suspects.

CCSO arrested Gerald Bennett, Ryan Murrow, Amber Brooks, Kevin Atkins, Alan Caswell, Brooke Fields and Tracy Hendrix, according to WSB-TV. Heard County Sheriff’s Office arrested Marvin Rachalla and a juvenile.

According to WSB-TV, HCSO deputies found guns during their arrest and had reached out to CCSO to find that Rachalla was connected with the crime ring they were investigating.

CCSO told WSB-TV that the suspects were allegedly responsible for two burglaries at separate houses and five car break-ins.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
