The collector for the West Virginia Turnpike was injured on the southbound lane of the toll plaza in Chelyan when the semi, which was carrying an oversized load, attempted to use the wrong lane at about 7 a.m. EDT, WCHS-TV reported.

“The far right lane in any toll plaza is the oversized truck lane,” Jeff Miller, executive director of the West Virginia Parkways Authority, said in a statement. “This driver attempted to use the second lane, thinking their load would fit, and ended up hitting the toll booth in the far right line.”

The worker was briefly trapped before other turnpike employees helped remove him, WCHS reported.

The lanes were closed for three hours but reopened by 10 a.m. EDT, WSAZ-TV reported.
