MADISON, Wis. — “Please stop, I have a kid on the way,” a Wisconsin man pleaded with the driver of a vehicle as he was being dragged 20 feet down the road Monday. The man was trying to stop thieves who allegedly stole multiple packages with baby supplies from his front porch, authorities said.
Marleaka M. Jackson, 22, and Destiny S. Shanklin, 20, were arrested and charged in Madison, WMTW reported.
Jackson was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and theft, according to an incident report released by the Madison Police Department. Shanklin, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with receiving stolen property.
According to police, the victim and his pregnant wife were inside their home when they allegedly saw someone come up to their porch around 3:45 p.m. Monday, WISC reported. The couple said there were several boxes on their porch that contained recent baby shower gifts and other child care items, the television station reported.
According to the incident report, Jackson tossed the packages to Shanklin and drove off as the man ran after the car and grabbed the window.
The married couple got the license plate number of the car and called police, WTMW reported. Police in suburban Verona pulled over the fleeing women and arrested them, the television station reported.
According to police, the man was treated for road rash, an injured foot and a knee injury that required stitches, according to the incident report.
