World leaders who have contracted, recovered from coronavirus

President Donald Trump is the latest world leader to test positive for COVID-19.

Here is a list of other world leaders who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus:

Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson had to be hospitalized in April, and eventually spent three nights in intensive care, after contracting COVID-19, The New York Times reported. He was put on oxygen but did not have to be put on a ventilator.

Contingency plans had been made if his condition worsened, NBC News reported.

Matt Hancock

Britain’s Health Minister Matt Hancock tested positive for the virus at the same time as Johnson, NBC News reported.

Prince Charles

The royal family hasn’t been immune to the coronavirus pandemic. Prince Charles tested positive, but only had mild symptoms. His wife Camilla was negative.

Herman Cain

Former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain died on July 30 after contracting COVID-19, Business Insider reported.

Rep. Louie Gohmert

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) tested positive for coronavirus on July 29. Gohmert had refused to wear a mask while at the U.S. Capitol, Business Insider reported.

Rep. Tom Rice

Rep. Tom Rice (R-S.C.) was the first lawmaker to contract the virus in June, CNN reported.


Sophie Gregoire Trudeau

Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, tested positive for the virus in March. Justin Trudeau did not, but he did self-isolate for two weeks, NBC News reported.

Alexander Lukashenko

Belarus' President Alexander Lukashenko originally called the global response to coronavirus as a “psychosis” and said that the best remedy was vodka, saunas, and tending to fields.

Lukashenko was diagnosed with the coronavirus in July but said he was asymptomatic.

Prince Albert

Prince Albert of Monaco tested positive in March. He recovered quickly.

Juan Hernández

President of Honduras Juan Hernández tested positive in June. Two of his aides also tested positive, NBC News reported. He was hospitalized in a “delicate” situation and was on oxygen, the Times reported.

Hernández’s wife also tested positive, the Times reported.

Jeanine Añez

Bolivian president Jeanie Añez tested positive for coronavirus in July and was isolated for 14 days. Several other government officials also tested positive at the time, the Times reported.

Alejandro Giammattei

President of Guatemala Alejandro Gimmattei tested positive for coronavirus in September. He said he had mild symptoms and body aches, the Times reported.

Jair Bolsonaro

Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for coronavirus in July after having symptoms including fever and cough, the BBC reported.

Mikhail Mishustin

The prime minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin tested positive in April, the Times reported.

Patriarch Filaret

Patriarch Filaret, the leader of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, tested positive for coronavirus on Sept. 8. He had called COVID-19 a punishment by God for sins of humanity, specifically same-sex marriage, the Independent reported.
