UCF Offers Free Rides For Drunk Students

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A plan in the works at the University of Central Florida has some concerned it could actually promote drinking.

It's called "Knight Drive." There will be at least five rental cars ready to take students home from bars for free.

It will cost more than $52,000 from the student fees fund and some students told WFTV the money could be better spent.

"Some people don't drink, so they are going to think that money could be used for some other resources," one student said.

"The benefit is that we don't have to worry about finding one of your friends to be a designated driver. You just go ahead and call up, someone will come and pick you up and you don't have to worry about drinking and driving," said Samantha Mooren, Knight Drive.

Right now, the plan is to run Knight Ride on Friday nights between 10:00pm and 3:00am. The rides are on a first call, first served basis.

The student government could expand the program if it works.
