LONGWOOD, Fla. — Three Longwood police officers rescued a 75-year-old man who nearly drowned Thursday after accidentally driving his lawn mower into a pond.
Longwood police and fire crews were called to the 900 block of 1st Place just before 11:30 a.m. for a possible drowning.
Three responding officers arrived to find the man in the pond pinned underneath the riding mower.
Body-worn camera video released by the Longwood Police Department shows officers immediately jump into the pond and work to lift the mower off the man before pulling him from the water.
One officer suffered burns to the hands from grabbing on to the mower’s motor, which was still hot.
The man they rescued only required treatment on the scene by Longwood Fire Rescue.
