ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.,None — A woman is accused of ripping off several Disney resorts. Orange County investigators believe Nancy de la Cerda and her husband, Jeremy, were making a living off checking in and out of Disney hotels without paying, but she's only been charged with one incident.
The duo tried to dupe WFTV reporter Daralene Jones when she confronted them Friday, going to their Longwood apartment to get their side of the story.
Jeremy de la Cerda said Jones had the wrong address and then said someone stole their identities, even after seeing the report listing him and his wife.
"You were listed on the report for the fraud at Disney," Jones told him.
"No," he said.
"Not ringing a bell at all?" Jones asked.
"No, maybe a different address?" de la Cerda replied.
"Is Nancy here?" Jones asked.
"No," he said.
"Wrong address?" Jones asked.
""I guess," he said.
Jeremy de la Cerda was adamant it was the wrong home when WFTV's news crew went to find out why he and his wife Nancy allegedly tried to rip off Disney.
Orange County sheriff's investigators said, over nine days, she checked in and out of Disney resorts and charged thousands to the rooms using a bad credit card. Her husband suggested someone must have stolen their identities after seeing the report showing his wife was arrested for fraud and he was trespassed from Disney.
"So, you think someone stole your identity?" Jones asked him.
"It's possible," he said.
But not even an hour after leaving, Nancy de la Cerda emailed Jones and wrote: "I'm more than happy to speak with you about this incident. However, today is my son's 11th birthday and I refuse to let anything take me away."
Nancy included a 3-page letter claiming Disney tried to overcharge them and their trip to Disney was meant to cure their daughter's fear of Disney "after she slipped and fell on a restroom floor covered in urine and water" during a trip to Magic Kingdom in 2008.
Disney told WFTV they are reluctant to comment on any incidents regarding de la Cerda, because of the ongoing criminal investigation.
