Hurricane Zeta making landfall in southeast Louisiana with 110 mph winds

ORLANDO, Fla. — Hurricane Zeta restrengthened into a hurricane on Wednesday.

The storm is forecast to bring life-threatening storm surge and strong winds to southeastern Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center.

5:10 p.m. update

Hurricane Zeta is making landfall in southeast Louisiana. Channel 9 chief meteorologist Tom Terry said the storm is bringing 100 mph winds to the coast, with higher gusts on the eastern side of the storm.

9 a.m. update

Hurricane Zeta is continuing to strengthen as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast. The storm’s winds have reached 95 mph.

Zeta is expected to reach the northern Gulf Coast Wednesday. It is expected to weaken over the southeastern U.S. Thursday.

5 a.m. update

Hurricane hunters reported that Zeta is continuing to strengthen after it regained hurricane status overnight. The storm’s winds have increased to 85 mph.

It could become a Category 2 storm before it makes landfall.

Meteorologist Brian Shields said Zeta will move into Louisiana late Wednesday with winds around 100 mph.

Zeta is expected to move close to the Mississippi coast this evening.

4 a.m. update

Zeta’s winds have increased to 75 mph. Forecasters said they expect the storm is strengthen overnight and into the morning.

Zeta is forecast to reach the northern Gulf Coast as a hurricane Wednesday before weakening over the southeastern U.S. on Thursday.
