ORLANDO, Fla. — Authorities confirmed early afternoon a 300-acre prescribed fire was occurring in Wekiwa Springs State Park in northern Orange County. The controlled burn near Kelly Park Road and Rock Springs Road is pushing smoke into Seminole County and we could see it from radar and from our Tower Cam located in Downtown Orlando.
Downpours and a storm moved over this area around 1 p.m. this afternoon. Still smoky conditions were reported by Channel 9 viewers via twitter in the Sweetwater Oaks subdivision. Smoke was seeing reaching I-4 over Seminole County on Doppler 9.

It is incredibly smokey in the Sweetwater Oaks subdivision. Garage is filled with smoke. Outside is hazy. Two large plumes of black smoke in distance.

Authorities perform controlled burn to help mitigate larger fires sparked by natural causes or humans that can get out of control and cause further and larger damage.
