ORLANDO, Fla. — Gold Key Roofing is a proud WFTV 9 Family Partner and has proudly been serving Central Florida since 1975. Part of serving the community is helping those in need. Mrs. Russell opened the Russell Home in 1951 as the first non-profit home in the country for brain-damaged children. Since then, the home has opened its doors to hundreds of children that have nowhere else to go. It’s a special home here in our community and Gold Key Roofing invites you to learn more about the different ways you can support Russell Home.
The Russell Home was the first non-profit institution in the country for brain-damaged children. Today you would find quietly hanging in the home a dusty occupational license dated Nov. 13, 1951, when Mrs. Russell opened her home to the first child to “see if it would work out.” Since then, the home has opened its doors to hundreds of youngsters, sometimes after hearing pleas from desperate parents, and in more than one instance, finding them just left on the doorstep. The love that is in the home, expressed through the eyes, sounds, and smiles from the children will make you count your blessings for the simple things in life. The Russell Home for Atypical Children Thrift Store is located at 5517 S. Orange Ave., 32809. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am-5pm and gladly accept your donations on those same days from 10am-3pm. Unfortunately, they cannot come to your house and pick-up donations. Everything that is sold in the thrift store has come from you, our community, and ALL profits go directly back to The Russell Home to aid in their quest in giving our children the best possible care they can have. From all kinds of clothing, kitchenware, furniture, bathroom décor, vhs/cd/dvd’s, sports equipment, and toys, we mostly likely have what you need for yourself, or as gifts for someone else.
