The entire show takes you on a story of true love, a story that Disney knows far too well. Keep a look out for some of your old pals, Mickey and Minnie who will open the show with a slew of special guests. The storyline stays true to the original film and expands on the pre-existing ice-skating rink to create a magical wonderland. The set design is magnificent. Unexpected twinkling lights and moving scenery guide you through the mystic worlds of the film. There’s also no shortage of snow. From tiny flurries to full blown white-outs, it is surely a sight to be seen.
The costumes absolutely blew me away with their tiny details and intricacies. The Elsa Ice Queen dress in particular was made of hand painted silk chiffon and had over 3500 sparkling crystals. In total, there are over 108 costumes in the show and each one had it’s own special flavor. I was especially amazed by the “Sven” costume. It contained two skaters, one controlling the head and one in the rear, but the coordination was close to perfection. Had that been me in that suit, it would have taken about 5 seconds for me to fall to the ground.
I also can’t forget about the incredible performers. Each and every one of the 39 ice-dancers captured their characters emotions and personalities perfectly during each move. Elsa glided with a regal ease while Anna floated playfully across the ice. The stand out player was surely Kristoff whose breathtaking backflips and giddy acrobatics gained cheers from everyone in the audience.
This is a show for all generations. Whether you’re a diehard Frozen fan or just a casual observer, you’re going to want to see this show. Like others before, this Disney on Ice adaption will surprise you and astonish you. Be sure to check it out while it’s still in town.
