Adopt, volunteer or donate: Guide to Central Florida animal rescue groups

There are so many animals that need a loving home. If you are looking for that purrrfect kitty to snuggle with, or a fun-loving pooch to play with, there are many rescue groups across Central Florida that could have just the companion you’re looking for. If you can’t own a pet, many facilities need volunteers and are in much need of donations, not just monetary, but food and blankets, too.

ORANGE COUNTY

- Happy Trails Animal Rescue is a nonprofit, foster-based rescue network located at 1720 North Goldenrod Road, Unit 8 in Orlando, 32807. It’s mission is to “educate and provide assistance to pet owners in an effort to create a better community for the animals in Central Florida and help reduce overpopulation and keep existing pets in their homes.” Click/tap here for more information.

- Houndhaven, Inc. rescues dogs and puppies from euthanasia at kill shelters. The staff brings dogs that are up for adoption to the Petsmart in Winter Garden Village. Click/tap here for more information.

SEMINOLE COUNTY

- Save A Life Pet Rescue is a nonprofit organization that has rehabilitated, spayed/neutered and placed more than 15,000 animals with families. Click/tap here for more information.

- Greyhound Pets of America Greater Orlando is located at 1260 S. Ronald Reagan Boulevard in Longwood, 32750. The facility’s purpose is to find homes for ex-racing Greyhounds and to educate the public on the suitability and availability of Greyhounds as pets. Click/tap here for more information.

BREVARD COUNTY

- The Animal Sanctuary is located in Melbourne. It’s a no-kill rescue working to build a campus-style facility on 17.5 acres in Brevard County, thanks to the generous donations that are still much-needed. Click/tap here for more information.

- Brevard Humane Society provides animal welfare shelters and programs that foster a humane ethic toward animals. The Cocoa intake and adoption facility is located at 1020 Cox Road, 32926. - Journey’s End Animal Sanctuary Located in Glenwood, the facility “provides lifetime care and shelter for dogs, cats, horses, pigs, sheep, and birds that have been abused, neglected or have special needs. Rather than emphasizing adoption, Journey’s End provides a homelike setting where animals can enjoy the remainder of their lives in a comfortable, loving atmosphere.” Click/tap here for more information.

- Oscar’s Cause is an organization with a sentimental story. The nonprofit was put into place to “ensure that all animals can get the appropriate care that they need,” so that no other animals or families have to suffer the way the founders’ pet dachshund, Oscar, and his family, did.
