27 Community Connection launches anti-bullying awareness

Orlando, FL — WRDQ 27 Community Connection and our partners are teaming up with other community leaders to invite you to join the anti-bullying movement that is sweeping Central Florida. Bullying is a serious issue that occurs everywhere from school hallways to cyberspace. If we all come together, there’s hope that someday there will be an end to this destructive cycle.

Bullying is a real problem--did you know:

* 1 out of 4 kids is bullied

* 43% of students are bullied online

* 1 out of 5 kids admits to being a bully

* 160,000 students may skip school on any given day for fear of being bullied

* 50% of suicides among young people are related to bullying

That is why we are bringing you local, regional and national resources to educate students, parents and teachers on what bullying looks like in elementary, middle and high schools. We will also continue to bring you stories, examples and tips on what to do if you suspect bullying and what YOU can do to help put an end to it.

Do you have a bullying story you want to share--either as a parent, teacher or student? If so, email Michelle Stevens at Michelle.Stevens@wftv.com.

Is your school talking to students about bullying and how to identify it and stop it? If so, we want to hear from you.

Together, we can help Central Florida be a better community for our children. Check back often for more resources.
