Actor Kevin James joins Orlando Walk to Defeat ALS

ORLANDO, Fla. — The "King of Queens," Kevin James, was on-hand at Saturday's Walk to Defeat ALS at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando. The actor was in town to support his cousin, Chris Knipfing, who has ALS. Knipfing, the Director of Treasury for the Hard Rock International, was thrilled to have his cousin at the Walk to Defeat ALS.

"I didn't know Kevin was coming to the Walk and it was a great surprise to see him waiting at the finish line," Knipfing said.  "Kevin brought his wife, Steffiana, and their three kids – it was really nice of him to be there."

The ALS Association Florida Chapter’s spokesperson, Alissa Gutierrez, said the actor has volunteered to help spread awareness for The Association.

"We're really grateful for the support that Kevin James has given The ALS Association Florida Chapter," she said. "He recently taped a radio public service announcement for our organization that is getting airtime across the state."

Saturday's Walk to Defeat ALS at Lake Eola raised a record $230,000 and had nearly 1,000 participants.

The Walk to Defeat ALS is The ALS Association's signature event in which all funds directly support cutting-edge research, programs and patient care. Last year, these events raised more than $1 million around the state of Florida.
