Army Recruiter Faces Charges For Sexual Battery

ORLANDO, Fla. — A central Florida-based U.S. Army recruiter is accused of sexually battering a recruit under the guise of measuring her body fat.

Thirty-six-year-old Staff Sgt. Damien E. Maldonado was arrested this week. He has since posted bond to be released from jail.

Staff Sgt. Damien E. Maldonado wanted a judge to allow him to see his children, but Tuesday morning the judge said he can only have visitation with his sons not his teenage daughter.

A 20-year-old soldier says Maldonado told her to take off all her clothes to measure her body fat, then coerced her into performing oral sex. Orlando police say two other recruits lodged similar complaints against Maldonado.

His attorney told WFTV that what happened in the Orlando recruiting office was not a crime.

"According to the police report which is public record, she gave him sexual favors in return for a good recommendation. That is not a sex crime. It's not appropriate, but it's not a sex crime," said Nancy McClintic, Maldonado's Attorney.

Separately, he faces charges of allegedly fondling a child.

This isn't the first time Maldonado has been in trouble. In April, he was charged with 25 counts after allegedly molesting a teenage family member
