Butch Trucks, Allman Brothers Band drummer and founding member, dies at 69

Drummer Claude “Butch” Trucks, one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers Band, has died, according to multiple reports. He was 69 years old.

Organizers of the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival announced his death in a Facebook post Wednesday morning. Trucks was scheduled to perform on May 20 at the festival with The Freight Train Band.

Trucks’ booking agent, Page Stalling, confirmed to Rolling Stone magazine that Trucks died Tuesday. His cause of death was not immediately known.

Trucks and fellow Allman Brothers Band drummer Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson were listed among Rolling Stone magazine's 100 greatest drummers of all time.
