Boy hit by SUV while riding bike into oncoming traffic near Cocoa

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A 10-year-old boy was struck by an SUV while riding a bicycle into oncoming traffic Monday afternoon, the Cocoa Police Department said.

Police said the crash was reported at about 4 p.m. on South Varr Avenue, near West King Street and South Fiske Boulevard.

“The driver of the SUV was cooperative,” police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said. "The child was alert and crying when rescuers arrived on scene."

Police said the boy was flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando to be treated for a leg injury.
