CDC: Yes, get a COVID vaccine even if you’ve had the virus

WASHINGTON — More than 10-million people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, but millions who have already recovered have asked if they need it too.

From coast to coast, state officials are working to open mass vaccination sites in places like stadiums and amusement parks.

There’s a “super” site at Disneyland in Anaheim. In Manhattan, the Javits Convention Center is being used as a state-run vaccine facility.

When asked directly if a person who’s already had the coronavirus should still get vaccinated, the Centers for Disease Control says, simply, yes.

After a COVID-19 patient recovers from the infection, their immune system should keep them from getting sick again right away, but scientists say they still don’t know exactly how long immunity lasts or how strong it is.

Recent research suggests the protection could last for several months.

The CDC says anyone who’s been infected within the last three months can delay getting vaccinated, particularly if they’re doing so to allow others to get it first while supplies are limited.
