‘We don’t feel safe anymore’: 2 teens shot at Orange County apartment complex, deputies say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two teens were injured in a shooting Monday night.

Deputies were called to the Lake Weston Apartments on Lake Weston Drive shortly before 8 p.m. for reports of gunfire.

Once on scene, they found a 14-year-old boy near the apartment complex’s basketball court with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and is now stable.

A short time later, a second 16-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound and taken to the hospital. He’s also listed in stable condition.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t released any information on a possible suspect or motive as the investigation is ongoing.

Neighbors said it’s the first time they can remember anything like this happening in the complex.

“It’s very scary,” resident Chantal Butler said.

Butler said her preteen occasionally plays basketball on the court near where one of the teens was shot, but not anymore.

“It’s very nerve racking to be honest," she said. "It makes you not want to let your kids come outside to be kids because obviously we don’t feel safe anymore.”

Deputies are asking anyone with information on what may have happened to call the sheriff’s office at 407- 836-4357 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.

The sheriff’s office said they do not believe this latest shooting is connected to a recent string of gang-related shootings.
